| CHIVALRY'S SIR ORRICK : Foaled May 4th 2002 Bred by : David & Susan Karges ~ Chivalry Farm~ After 2 1/2 years of searching for a Stallion for Wolf Manor Estate's breeding program, I found Chivalry's Sir Orrick in 2002. Sir Orrick possessed everything I was looking for in a Stallion prospect. ~ Tractable / Natural Athletic Ability / Size / Bone ~ Intelligence / Great Conformation / Positive (DAP) ~ Heart & Personality / Champion Bloodlines / Color I was honored to be able to purchase Chivalry's Sir Orrick from David & Susan of Chivalry Farm. I have raised Sir Orrick since he was 5 months old. He has been an extreme pleasure and joy to raise, work with and watch grow over these years. As each year goes by he continuously shows his intelligence, docile nature, natural athletic ability, maturity & willingness to do what ever is asked of him. Sir Orrick was shown in Halter as a weanling and received a 1st and a Jr. Reserve Championship. From 5 months old until he was 2 yrs old he was allowed to grow and learn happily at home. He's been trained with voice commands at liberty since the first day he came to me and takes to his training easily. His intelligence is a delight! He picks up on new training by the second time it's shown to him and responds to commands after that as if he's been doing them for years. He loves to learn and do new things. Sir Orrick was sent to a Professional trainer at 2yrs old to expand upon all the basics I taught. He was asked to perform all that he knew in new surroundings and around Mares with a new person (his trainer) handling him. His trainer said that he was more mature than his age and horses she has worked with at that age. She was pleasantly surprised by his graceful athletic ability. After a month of professional training where he began ground driving... Sir Orrick returned to the Show Ring and went on the Show circuit from August through October 2004. His first show ,as a 2yr old, he received a 1st place & Jr. Championship. Out of 5 Clydesdale studs he received the Grand Championship placing even though he was so excited and curious about all the new sights and sounds that he didn't stand still. By his second show he knew what was expected of him and what to expect. By the time he was shown in the Clydesdale show at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition, in Harrisburg, PA., he was well accustomed to all the sounds and excitement of the Show World. He walked about , with handler David Karges, on just a halter with no stud chain amongst all the other show horses, (Mares/Stallions & Geldings) trucks, cars, people, horses being hitched and bathed, etc., with his head down, level and calm as can be. Out of 7 other stud colts in his class - Stallion 2 yrs and under 3 - he took a 3rd place ribbon at K.I.L.E. The Judges comments were that he was placed third and not higher because he did not have "Scotch Bottom" shoes on and did not have his tail docked. He was the second tallest colt in that class. I was very pleased and rather surprised with his placings that year because I didn't adhere to "traditional" Clydesdale showing techniques. Sir Orrick was shod with custom made lightweight shoes that ensured that they would not tweak the growing joints of a young horse instead of the weighted "Scotch Bottoms" Americans seem to like. I wasn't willing to place ribbons ahead of the health and growth of my horse, plus I believe in NATURAL BRED ACTION...not "man made". I would have preferred to have not put shoes on him at all at such a young age...if it was not for the fact that many shows will not even allow a horse into the ring without shoes on. So knowing that, I opted to have non weighted custom shoes made that would not harm his growing joints. This choice and the fact that I won't have his tail docked marked points against him in some shows. It all depended upon how much emphasis the judge places on the "correct" shoes(Scotch Bottoms in this case) and docking of tails. Some judges look more at the horse itself and not the "gimmicks " that are often used. Sir Orrick is currently home here at Wolf Manor Estate in the company of Wolf Manor's future Georgian Grande brood mare ~Carrigan's Hi Adventure ~Piebald Reg Saddlebred & Pinto Horse~ } & Wolf Manor's other stud PHP Shadow Dancer ~AMHA 32" Miniature horse~. {Click on thumbnails to see larger > view of Chivalry's Sir Orrick with our brood mare CC & Diamond (who is sold and foaled out a flashy filly on St. Patrick's Day 2007 sired by Sir Orrick ) } Chivalry's Sir Orrick will continue his training this year and will be started undersaddle. | I've received many email's from people all around the world who ask for permission to use pictures of Chivalry's Sir Orrick in differing projects. Everything from young Ladies & Gentlemen wanting to use his pictures in their Virtual Horse games to 4-H projects and articles to graphic banners for use on My Space. One request in particular was quiet an honor in my eyes for my boy. It was a request for permission to have a Model Horse painted in his likeness for showing in Model Horse Shows. These are pictures of a Model Horse that Paula Tervo (who shows Model Horses) had professionally painted up in 2005 in Sir Orrick's likeness to show with. I think the Professional Artist who worked on this piece for Paula did a brilliant job!! (Click on the pictures to enlarge them then use your back button to return to this page.) Thank you Paula for honoring Sir Orrick with your beautiful model horse. |
